GREENBELT ACCESS TELEVISION
BUILDS FROM THE GROUND UP WITH JVC'S DIGITAL-S
Station to Start Airing this Spring
Elmwood Park, NJ (February 4, 1998) Greenbelt Access Television (GATE) of Maryland, a start-up
public access cable channel, has selected JVC's DIGITAL-S with 4:2:2 sampling as its house videotape
format.
The new station, slated to go on the air in March before more than 20,000 viewers in the greater
Greenbelt, MD area, is equipped with JVC's DIGITAL-S BR-D750 VTR and the JVC DIGITAL-S BR-D51
player with S-VHS playback.
Kjell Forsting, the station's executive director, said he selected JVC's DIGITAL-S because its
4:2:2 component digital signal and mild compression makes it technically superior to other
competing formats and allows him to deliver clearer picture quality.
When he purchased DIGITAL-S, Forsting said he was not only conscious of buying quality, but of
buying equipment that would stand the test of time. "It's a big investment to start up a station,
and you have to have perspective when you buy equipment," Forsting explained, "DIGITAL-S gives
our station an eye to the future."
Funded by a non-profit grant infused with public tax dollars, Green Belt Access Television, will
broadcast to the greater Greenbelt area on local cable Channel 10.
Forsting said the station will begin broadcasting once a week in March for eight to ten hours at a
time before expanding its broadcast schedule.
The grassroots, public access programming will be available to local city organizations and to
civic groups. Forsting said the programming will highlight, "The spirit of Greenbelt," which
Forsting said is people working together for a better society. "It will showcase how great it
is to live in a community like Greenbelt."
