THREE HOLLYWOOD DUB HOUSES JOIN LIST OF DIGITAL-S PROVIDERS
So. California Post Production Market Drives Request for DIGITAL-S

Elmwood Park, NJ (September 12, 1997) – JVC PROFESSIONAL PRODUCTS COMPANY announced that Hollywood's VDI Media, Advanced Digital Services (ADS), and Dubs, Inc. have joined the growing ranks of DIGITAL-S users. DIGITAL-S, JVC's 4:2:2 component digital video tape format, is increasing its presence in major production markets across the country due to its high end digital quality and low cost. DIGITAL-S is superior to any analog videocassette format and rivals even the most expensive digital formats.

VDI Media Meets Latino Market Needs
VDI Media invested in DIGITAL-S to fill the needs of customers duplicating Spanish language programming. "We buy equipment when clients start asking for it," said Chief Engineer Jon Gray. "Right after NAB '97 there was a flurry of requests from clients interested in doing business with us if we had DIGITAL-S playback."

Hollywood's VDI Media is a professional mass duplication house; its Culver City facility has film transfer, editorial and audio playback capabilities. In addition to JVC's DIGITAL-S, VDI offers full range dubbing from the new smaller digital formats to one-inch tape. The company does extensive international standards conversion and performs Macrovision encryption and closed captioning.

ADS Meets Customer Demand
Advanced Digital Services (ADS) has also purchased a BR-D85 DIGITAL-S editing recorder to meet customer demand for the 4:2:2 format. "Our customers prefer to master their programs on DIGITAL-S mainly because of its 4:2:2 digital signal processing," reported Kevin Yates, one of ADS's operations managers. "With 4:2:2, they can achieve fantastic picture quality generation after generation. We needed DIGITAL-S playback to handle their dubbing requests." Since ADS acquired the BR-D85, "other independent producer clients are starting to use DIGITAL-S more and more," Yates reported.

"Our main concern with buying a deck is reliability," said Yates. "Since we've been using the BR-D85, we've had flawless production, and the DIGITAL-S format is very durable. It's also convenient because the recorder is lightweight enough to move around the facility as needed." ADS, which does a great deal of work for the Paramount, Turner and Universal studios and independent film producers, dubs from and to every video format and packages, labels and ships orders. The company also offers nonlinear editing, audio playback, international standards conversion and closed captioning.

Dubs, Inc. buys DIGITAL-S to satisfy customers
Dubs, Inc., which also does work for most of the major studios, similarly purchased a BR-D85 edit recorder to satisfy customer demand for the format.

According to George Bibaz, vice president of marketing, "Dubs offers its customers every major format available, and the major studios began requesting DIGITAL-S because it is a 4:2:2 format." The company, which has been in business for 13 years, specializes in duplication and conversion as well as post production.
