OHIO FACILITY UPGRADES FROM 1-INCH TO DIGITAL-S
Elmwood Park, NJ (November 13, 1997) The Edit Suite, in Poland, Ohio, recently upgraded its
production facility to digital quality with the purchase of JVC's BR-D85 DIGITAL-S editing recorder
with pre-read.
The facility, which specializes in corporate and special interest video and some commercial
production, previously used one-inch tape.
"The first time I used DIGITAL-S, I immediately saw a visible improvement in the quality of the
edited video," said owner Rich Melvin. "And, character-generated graphics are much cleaner on
DIGITAL-S."
Melvin and his staff use the pre-read function often to edit two scenes on the same field tape.
"It's a very handy feature because it's so easy to do dissolves without using B-roll. In fact,
aside from the overall outstanding performance of DIGITAL-S, it was specifically the pre-read
function that made me realize I needed this format," he said.
Melvin considered other digital videotape formats but none had all the features of DIGITAL-S at
such an affordable price. He also considered non-linear editing systems, but said he saw more
benefit to editing with DIGITAL-S since most of his work is long form, between 40 minutes to one
hour. "I like editing on tape, and editing programs of that length on non-linear would be more
time consuming," Melvin said.
"So far, I have been very pleased with the format," Melvin noted. "We're producing our highest
quality work ever thanks to DIGITAL-S."
