PRODUCTS COMPANY to produce high quality programming, which also providing students with hands-on
professional broadcast experience. Recently, a new chapter in the history of Great Neck Schools and JVC
was written. This district selected JVC's 4:2:2 Digital-S as the videotape format for its in-school teleproduction
facility, a move that catapulates the school into digital realm.
Great Neck's choice of JVC's DIGITAL-S allows the school district to produce broadcast quality footage superior
even to the region's local network affiliates. It also arms Great Neck students with tangible, real world skills,
For Bob Gluck, the school's director of cable television, the quality, reliable and reputation of JVC
equipment were key factors in choosing DIGITAL-S over other digital formats. "When it came time to select
a digital format, we did our homework," Gluck said. "We knew JVC was the leader in 4:2:2 digital technology
worldwide."
Gluck said Great Neck Schools has relied on JVC since 1972 when the district's on-site broadcast-level
studio first went "on the air." "it just seemed that whenever we had a need to move in a particular
direction, JVC always had the answer first, and at a price that we could afford," Gluck explained.
Gluck, who oversees the broadcast facility, said that parents and faculty agree that JVC's mix of price,
performance and reputation is a recipe for success for the Kindergarten through 12th grade students at Great Neck.
"Our teachers and students pride themselves in setting high standards for our students, so that they can achieve
the most from their education. Many of our students have gone on to successful careers in broadcasting,"
Gluck said. "Our broadcast department, a jewel of the district that distinguishes our shcool from others, has
always been at the forefront of the latest technology. We knew we had a reputation to uphold when we made the
decision to go digital. We thoroughly examined all digital broadcast alternatives and decided upon JVC when
it became apprent that DIGITAL-S offered the perfect digital upgrade at an affordable price."
The district's recent DIGITAL-S purchase included a JVC DIGITAL-S BR-D750 editing VTR for the school's mobile
production truck and a DIGITAL-S BR-D80 editing recorder for the school's full production and postproduction studio.
Great Neck's studio functions primarily as a teaching facilty where students in grades 5-12 can learn
film-style production and create their own studio production programs. It also functions as a closed-circuit
teleproduction studio used for inschool broadcasts, and as a production facility for local cable talk shows.
Postproduction is performed on the premises.
"In short, the district's broadcast setup ranks as one of the premier operations in use at any
public school in the country," Gluck siad. "With JVC's DIGITAL-S, we look forward to reinforcing our
cutting-edge reputation for a long time."
