Las Vegas, NV (NAB, April 23-26, 2001) -- JVC PROFESSIONAL PRODUCTS COMPANY is rolling out a new DY-90WCL CineLine camcorder this NAB, featuring an advanced DSP developed by JVC engineers in partnership with leading cinematographers. The result is a totally amazing D-9 camcorder built specifically for digital cinematographers who require the highest quality all-digital footage, seamless blow up to 35mm film, the versatility of 16:9/4:3 switchable aspect ratio and the color resolution and flawless picture quality of 4:2:2 sampling.

The thrust behind CineLine is JVC's belief that digital cinematography is the wave of the future in filmmaking, and that rich, film-like footage can be successfully and gracefully shot, edited and transferred to film using the right video equipment. For this reason, JVC has introduced CineLine, a dedicated suite of products aimed squarely at this growing market.

JVC's DY-90WCL CineLine camcorder combines the advantages of JVC's 14-bit Cine-DSP camera technology and switchable aspect ratio with a 4:2:2, 50 Mbps D-9 recorder. It is ideally suited for feature film production, offering more opportunities for creativity and productivity than a film camera.

After extensive research on location and in the studios, JVC engineers have quantified the visual elements that differentiate video from film. They have incorporated their discoveries into the DY-90WCL digital processor, which produces gamma curves and color matrices that fully capture dramatic lighting and provide a more natural conversion to film.

JVC's new CineLine technique also makes it possible to achieve much of the same fullness and richness of color and film-like texture within the video realm, meaning that it is not necessary to convert to film to attain a cinematic quality. The DY-90WCL features three 2/3-inch 16:9 sensors that let filmmakers use prime HD lenses without compromising image quality. To complete the package, JVC is rolling out a full line of CineLine accessories, such as viewfinder extenders, lenses and matte boxes, so filmmakers can comfortably shoot in traditional cinematography mode.

The DY-90WCL is lightweight and ergonomically designed for fingertip control, and available in both NTSC and Pal versions in the United States. Full professional functionality includes SMPTE time code in/out that allows you to synchronize with electronic slates or DAT recorders, 4 high-quality audio channels for direct recording achieving quality similar to DAT or NAGRA recorders.

"JVC's new DY-90WCL CineLine camcorder is perfect for today's digital cinematographers," noted Juan Martinez, National Product Marketing Manager for JVC's Digital Video Division. "Feature filmmakers who crave more creative control and the ability to fully capture the nuances of dramatic lighting will appreciate the cameras extensive user-adjustable parameters, high resolution, the high quality blow up to film and the native 16:9 aspect ratio."
