CHARLES AIDIKOFF SCREENING ROOM CHOOSES JVC’S D-ILA TECHNOLOGY
TO PROJECT ITS DIGITAL CINEMA PROGRAM

BEVERLY HILLS, CA (December 11, 2002)JVC PROFESSIONAL PRODUCTS COMPANY announces that the Charles Aidikoff Screening Room, one of the oldest, most prestigious private screening rooms headquartered in Beverly Hills, CA, chose JVC’s DLA-G150CL projector to enhance its digital cinema initiative.

The enigma behind JVC’s digital projectors is its proprietary D-ILA technology. D-ILA, Direct Drive Image Light Amplifier, is a projection chip technology based on digital signals producing images that bear a close resemblance to film without drawbacks that typically plague digital projectors.

Aidikoff acknowledges the growing involvement of digital cinema in every step of the moviemaking process and has decided to embrace JVC’s D-ILA technology for their move into the digital cinema arena. Co-owner Gregg Aidikoff had researched companies offering digital capabilities for almost two years before selecting JVC. Aidikoff is the third of four generations of Aidikoff projectionists to work in the screening room business, including founder and father Charles, and son, Josh.

“I sought out JVC projectors for my screening room because they are unsurpassed in picture quality,” said Gregg Aidikoff, “I chose to work with JVC because of their reputation, but it was the D-ILA image quality that sold me. Even when blown up on our 9½ x 22’ screen, the images were artifact and pixel-free with great colorimetry and maintained a rich, film-like high-resolution picture. I was astonished to say the least.”

In September 2002, Aidikoff presented the first digital screening to Anthony Hopkins and producers for his upcoming film, The Human Stain, with impressive results. According to Aidikoff, the viewers were pleased with the high quality picture. Traditionally, executives shy away from digital video because they claim it presents an artificial look. D-ILA overcomes this with higher resolution and an absence of visible pixels. With the purchase of the DLA-G150CL, Aidikoff is secure in knowing that they will please even the most critical Hollywood eyes.

“Aidikoff is renowned in Hollywood for their remarkable film screenings. Our partnership will help Aidikoff gain recognition as a digital screening room, and JVC will be at the forefront of it all, impressing the most influential people in Hollywood at every showing,” said Larry Librach, JVC’s assistant VP, business development.

The DLA-G150CL projector installation is just the beginning for Aidikoff. The facility also uses JVC's new Professional D-VHS player, featuring Pro-Scramble security to be available later this year, and plans to continue to use JVC’s products in the future. “Our desire is to stay shoulder-to-shoulder with JVC as they continue to make new advancements,” said Aidikoff.

The DLA-G150CL is JVC’s first in a line of CineLine projectors specifically for digital cinema applications. The DLA-G150CL CineLine projector displays images that are as close to film as possible for critical screening applications, specifically production, post-production environments, upscale home theaters and screening rooms.

Aidikoff plays host to various industry screenings, including Oscar® nominated films, accommodating stars such as Elizabeth Taylor, Tom Hanks and Catherine Zeta-Jones. Several industry types utilize Aidikoff for viewing: producers, post-production houses and behind-the-scenes vocations such as cinematographers. Aidikoff employs the highest-end quality products for the screening room including JVC and a Leader Hollywood Format sound system, designed and manufactured by Emmy Award-winning Michael Leader.
