HEURIS and JVC Announce Affordable Solution with HEURIS’ MPEG Power Professional —DTV HD Software and JVC’s SR-VDA 300US PRO-HD D-VHS Recorder
HEURIS’ Award-Winning Software package and JVC’s professional D-VHS systems provide HD recording, encoding, and playback for under $10,000

WAYNE, NJ (April 7, 2003) - HEURIS and JVC are pleased to announce that the MPEG Power Professional—DTV HD software from HEURIS will be demonstrated with JVC’s professional PRO-HD D-VHS system including the SR-VDA300US Recorder and the SR-VD400US Player at this year’s National Association of Broadcasters show in Las Vegas, Nevada.

HEURIS’ MPEG Power Professional—DTV HD is a software-only HD encoding package that runs on both Mac and PC platforms. HEURIS’ powerful software product allows customers to create ATSC compliant HD streams on the same computer system as their favorite HD non-linear editing system such as HD Boxx, Final Cut Pro, Avid D|S or animation program such as Adobe After Effects. Customers can choose either one-click built-in templates or a host of tweaking and filtering options for HD conversion including I-frame placement, frame-by-frame controls of filters, bitrate, and search algorithms. Other important features of the HD conversion software include those typically only found in very expensive hardware systems such as inverse telecine, automatic scene detection, and up conversion from non-HD formats. The HEURIS MPEG Power Professional—DTV HD software however, retails for less than $5,000.

The SR-VDA300US is a unique Pro-HD D-VHS recorder that accepts the native DVB-ASI data stream
allowing direct recording of HD MPEG-2 transport streams from various sources. The HD MPEG-2 footage encoded with HEURIS MPEG Power Professional – DVT HD software, running on a Windows PC, can be recorded on the SR-VDA300US using an ASI interface. In addition, it has the ability to create original password protected recordings in Pro-HD D-VHS mode, allowing secure transport of high definition recordings that only play on professional model VCR’s for content creators.

The SR-VD400US is an economical professional Pro-HD D-VHS player. This Pro-HD D-VHS player goes beyond the capabilities of consumer D-VHS players, by providing the ability to playback recordings in either the password-protected Pro-HD mode or consumer D-VHS mode, including JVC’s D-Theater protected pre-recorded software currently widely available in the United States. The combination of these components allows creators to generate password-protected content, encode better than ATSC HD formats at 25Mbs, and playback on a system capable of decoding the password protected material all for under $10,000.

“By making HEURIS HD MPEG2 software available, we provide an immediate solution for our users who purchase the SR-VDA300US PRO-HD D-VHS mastering recorder, particularly if they have limited budgets and short form programming”, said Lawrence Librach, assistant vice president for business development for JVC PROFESSIONAL PRODUCTS COMPANY.

“We are very pleased to be a part of JVC’s powerful suite of D-VHS products,” said HEURIS President Brian Quandt. “JVC’s PRO-HD D-VHS products are breaking new ground for high definition delivery. And at this price point, we anticipate a lot of interest among our users.”
