JVC INTRODUCES NEW 50-INCH AND 42-INCH HIGH-RESOLUTION PLASMA DISPLAYS FOR DIGITAL SIGNAGE MARKET

JVC working with Visual and Scala, Inc. for Complete Digital
Video Solution Needs

ATLANTA, GA (June 9, 2004) – JVC PROFESSIONAL PRODUCTS COMPANY today announced the release of the GM-X50U and the GD-V422UA super-high brightness plasma display units, bolstering its lineup of video displays for the growing digital signage needs. JVC also announced the pairing of these extra-sharp plasma monitors that deliver outstanding image quality with products from leading digital video software and hardware manufacturers Scala, Inc. and Visual Circuits. The combined product packages offer complete digital signage solutions for use in retail establishments, airports, office buildings and other areas with a lot of ambient light.

Both JVC plasma units are an optimal choice, when combined with InfoChannel software from Scala and Visual Circuits’ Mantis and FireFly line of digital video products, to reach customers and viewers with dynamic, highly customizable and timely text and visual messages.

The GM-X50U is a 50-inch ultra-bright plasma display that features 1366x768 resolution, 1000 cd/m2 panel brightness and can display all high definition TV (HDTV) formats plus NTSC and PAL. A 42-inch high-resolution plasma display, the GD-V422UA offers improved signal processing optimized for HDTV and NTSC/PAL video monitoring, 1024x768 pixels, remarkable 3000:1 contrast ratio, as well as XGA presentation display. Both plasma monitors feature 24/7 operation capabilities and come in attractive, 3.5-inch thick cabinets with thin silver bezels, built in speakers and integrated audio amplifiers with a fan-less design for quiet operation.

The digital signage market is growing in size and importance and JVC has responded with the addition of the GM-X50U and the GD-V422UA plasmas,” said Juan Martinez, director of strategic technical alliances for JVC PROFESSIONAL PRODUCTS COMPANY. “We’ve combined the best picture quality, best contrast ratio and other superior feature sets of our plasma displays with the highest performance digital media products from Scala and Visual Circuits to offer customers complete solutions for their digital signage and kiosk needs.”

Exton, PA-based Scala, Inc. developed its powerful InfoChannel 3 Software Suite to give users the ability to create, schedule, manage, distribute, and dynamically play back unique content to a single TV or thousands of remote displays — all from a single desktop. With its easy-to-use authoring software, users can update video content more easily and more often using less bandwidth and requiring no downtime – features that save both time and money over traditional video production. Users can also customize the video on a local level at the point of playback to maximize the message’s impact on the local audience.

Whether its tens, thousands or tens of thousands of displays, you need a proven software system to deliver the right message to the right people at the right time. That’s what Scala is all about,” said Jeff Porter, executive vice president for Scala. “With more than 15 years of experience in software solutions for dynamic signage, we understand the importance to have great displays to clearly and effectively communicate your message. We’re pleased to be able to support JVC in this initiative.”

Recently acquired by FOCUS Enhancements, Visual Circuits of Minneapolis, MN manufactures innovative and reliable digital video servers that have helped define the market for dynamic in-store digital signage.

It was a natural evolution for Visual Circuits to partner with JVC in providing end-to-end digital signage solutions,” said David Parish, . “The combination of our network media players and Media Messenger software and JVC's pristine plasma displays means that our customers will reach their audiences with the most visually appealing and targeted messages in the most reliable and scalable manner possible.”

Visual Circuits digital media technologies help transform JVC plasma displays into incredibly powerful digital communications tools. The multi-channel, high definition Mantis MC media player integrates 32-bit accelerated graphics with high definition (HD) video and scrolling text to deliver stunning and realistic image quality. Visual Circuit’s latest addition to the FireFly family of standard definition, network media players, the versatile FireFly MZ, is a multi-zone digital video player that enables users to integrate graphics, video and text elements on a single display screen.

The new structure and features sets of the GM-X50U and the GD-V422UA complement the Scala and Visual Circuits products capabilities for flexible and reliable digital signage needs. An extremely wide viewing angle of 160 degrees enables optimal exposure, while built-in screensavers and image converters can be programmed to prevent and eliminate potential burn-in. The plasma units features simultaneous dual display – side-by-side and picture-in-picture display from two video sources, digital zoom for multi-display and video wall applications and wired, RS232 and IR remote controls.

The GM-X50U and GD-V422UA plasma displays area available as part of promotional packages/offerings from both Visual Circuits and Scala products.
