KDDI PROVIDES CONTINUED SUPPORT FOR JVC’S REVOLUTIONARY JY-HD10U HD CAMERA

NLE Software and Tools Enable Editing, Conversion and Playback of MPEG-2 Files

LAS VEGAS, NV (April 19, 2004) – JVCPROFESSIONAL PRODUCTS COMPANY today announced that Saitama, Japan-based KDDI R&D Laboratories Inc. is among the growing list of companies creating products that support JVC’s revolutionary JY-HD10U handheld HD camera, and the JVC mission of delivering affordable HD products to the market. A basic version of KDDI’s non-linear editing (NLE) software, MPEG Edit Studio Pro LE, is bundled in with the JY-HD10U camera and gives users the ability to perform easy, frame-accurate editing of the MPEG-2 footage. A more robust version of the editing software is designed for higher end editing systems that let users easily perform professional-caliber editing functions with just the click of the mouse.

MPEG Edit Studio Pro software is the full version of KDDI’s software that directly handles MPEG-2 compressed streams, thereby eliminating the decoding and re-encoding of MPEG streams in the editing process that can cause potential image degradation, ensuring the picture quality remains true. Extremely versatile, MPEG Edit Studio Pro accepts multiple input data formats, including MPEG-1, MPEG-2 including MPEG-2 TS, and MPEG -4 and supports HDTV and 4:2:2P@ML for professional use.

“KDDI was our first partner in our Affordable HD mission and we’re delighted to have their continued support,” said Juan Martinez, director pf strategic relationships for JVC PROFESSIONAL PRODUCTS COMPANY. “Though JVC customers may know KDDI from the basic system that is included in the JYHD10; KDDI has many tools that allows the conversion and playback of MPEG-2 files compatible with HD, including the professional version of the MPEG Edit Studio Pro software.”

To complement KDDI’s comprehensive set of tools that allow for the conversion and playback of MPEG-2 files are MPEG-2 HDTV software decoders that are compatible with JVC’s MPEG-2 signal for distributing in MPEG-2.
