FLORIDA’S COLLIER COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT INSTALLS JVC IP NETWORK SURVEILLANCE SYSTEM THROUGHOUT 50 SCHOOLS

VR-N100U Video Network Recorders and IP Cameras Provide IP Security Solution

LAS VEGAS, NV (April 6, 2005) – JVC PROFESSIONAL PRODUCTS COMPANY today announced the completion of the first phase of a three-phase installation of its IP-network monitoring and surveillance solution throughout 50 campuses in the Collier Country School District in Naples, Florida. Each school will have a complete surveillance system consisting of JVC’s VR-N100U network video recorders and VN-C655U PTZ cameras designed to monitor activity both inside and outside each school.

“Due to an increase in community concerns about violence, school districts nationwide have stepped up their security measures by installing video surveillance systems,” said Steve Martin, assistant vice president Video Imaging Systems Division of JVC PROFESSIONAL PRODUCTS. “We’ve definitely seen an increase in interest because of this. The system integrators reach out to us because we have a proven system that is easy to install and extremely flexible.”

Once completed, each high school will have two VR-N100U network video recorders with approximately 16 cameras per recorder. The middle and elementary schools will have one VR-N100U hooked up to as many as ten cameras depending on the size of the campus and layout. The VR-N100U stores all individual camera data and can be accessed immediately via the Internet with a user name and password. Each camera attached to the VR-N100U can be custom programmed with recording options based on priority, individual frame rate, resolution and more.

Security cameras are located in cafeterias, hallways, parking lots and schoolyards. If the police are called in an emergency situation, they are able to access the video images at their headquarters via the Internet, or through the school’s wireless network from a police car or command post stationed outside the school.

“JVC’s solution works well with any existing network, which was a requirement for us,” said Dave Gronlund, manager of network infrastructure at Collier County Public Schools. “Their video recorder is easy to configure and use; it’s practically plug-and-play and more than anything the system is extremely affordable.”

Quality Communications Fire and Security, based in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida is the systems integrator for the project and chose the JVC system because of its reliability and flexibility. “JVC offers a complete security solution that provides flexibility and forward thinking in engineering, which allows us to comply with all the specifications of a given project,” said John Peterson, president of Quality Communications. “JVC worked with us on the Jacksonville Seaport (JAXPORT) project, which was the first-ever large-scale, totally wireless IP-network monitoring and surveillance installation. The entire installation and implementation process was seamless. We’ve been working with JVC’s network video recorders for almost two years and we find them and the technical support to be extremely reliable.”

All parties worked closely together to design and implement each school's surveillance system. In addition to monitoring high traffic areas during school hours, the system is also used to monitor and record after hours activity for building security.

JVC’s VR-N100U is the centerpiece in a complete line of digital/IP products that include fixed, pan/tilt and dome cameras, encoders, recorders and software.
