WDAY-TV PREPARES FOR HD TRANSITION WITH PURCHASE OF 18 JVC GY-HD100U PRO HD CAMERAS AND 15 BR-HD50U RECORDERS
Wayne, NJ (March 23, 2006) — JVC PROFESSIONAL PRODUCTS COMPANY today announced that WDAY-TV in Fargo, ND, has purchased 18 GY-HD100U Pro HD cameras and 15 BR-HD50U VTRs for the station’s electronic newsgathering (ENG). The ABC affiliate upgraded its old MII format with JVC’s affordable Pro HD cameras as the station’s primary camera for ENG.
“We went with the GY-HD100U because the camera can record in SD or HD. That was extremely important to us since we’re planning to upgrade the entire station to HD in the very near future,” said Jeff Nelson, news director, WDAY-TV. “Another factor was cost, especially when you’re purchasing such a large quantity of cameras. We’ve been very impressed with the video quality; the GY-HD100 has let us maintain the stations excellence in quality and will allow us to affordably and easily transition from SD to HD.”
“WDAY-TV’s commitment to JVC is an example of how the broadcast community can affordably transition from SD to HD,” said Craig Yanagi, National Marketing Manager, Creation Products, JVC PROFESSIONAL PRODUCTS COMPANY. “This is a very exciting time for us. TV stations want to provide the highest quality programming as well as improve their workflow and our solution is an extremely efficient and cost-effective way to do so. As the industry continues its transition from SD to HD our leading edge technologies will prove to be the affordable solution of choice.”
WDAY-TV captures footage from the GY-HD100U using Focus Enhancements portable FS-4 recorder as their main acquisition format. They transfer the footage directly from the hard drive into their Final Cut Pro editing systems. As a back up, the station also records onto tape and can access the taped footage using JVC’s BR-HD50U recorder/player to transfer the video and audio into its editing system.
Nelson added, “It’s great to work with cameras that complement our current editing workflow. The transition was seamless. Our crew is extremely pleased with the video quality and they’ve performed beautifully in below zero temperatures and in low light situations as well.”
JVC conducted a three-day end-user training session on site at WDAY-TV that consisted of twenty videographers, reporters, and engineers to help acclimate the crew with all the features on the GY-HD100U.
