JVC OFFERS QUICK AND AFFORDABLE SOLUTION FOR HD REMOTES

Las Vegas, NV (April 16, 2007), – Television news organizations across the nation are finding that the rapid adoption of HD is becoming a competitive necessity. JVC has responded by delivering ProHD cameras with built-in HD MPEG-2 encoders ideal for cost effective microwave and satellite transmission. TV stations nationwide are adopting the JVC solution and going to air with live ENG news remotes in full HD.

JVC's new 200 Series cameras are the industry's first 60p ProHD cameras with built-in broadcast level MPEG-2 encoders ideal for microwave and satellite transmission. The GY-HD200U and GY-HD250U easily integrate with a station's existing mobile microwave system. A growing number of market leading stations across the country such as WLS-TV in Chicago, IL are currently utilizing JVC's cameras for ENG production.

Prior to JVC's solution, the cost of upgrading a mobile van to HD was nearly $100,000 and required an HD camera, lens, stand alone encoder and an upgrade to the microwave transmitter. With JVC's ProHD solution, a typical HD-ready mobile van can start to transmit live standup remotes in HD for less than $15,000 and a SD mobile van can be upgraded for under $25,000, which includes an analog-to-digital microwave converter like the NUCOMM Analog Coder.

The key to JVC's affordable solution lies in the MPEG-2 encoder built into to the 200 Series cameras. JVC's ProHD system provides a full raster 1280 x 720 60p signal compressed to an ideal bitrate of 20Mbps, the "sweet spot" for 2Ghz remote transmission. Higher bitrates (required for interlaced signals) are not suitable for most currently used digital microwave transmitters. By using native progressive signals at 20Mbps, a broadcast quality picture is maintained without signal loss or generation of artifacts. A complete GY-HD250U camera, lens and ASI bridge can be purchased for less than $15,000.

"In the highly competitive business of local news, being first to air with HD remotes is a tremendous advantage," said Bob Mueller, COO & Executive Vice President, JVC Professional Products Company. "JVC's ProHD camcorders enable stations to upgrade their mobile vans to HD quickly and economically. JVC has proudly fulfilled a long-awaited industry need."
