RAYCOM OWNED WOIO-TV IN CLEVELAND BROADCASTS
NEWS IN HD WITH JVC GY-HD250 PRO HD CAMERAS

Wayne, NJ (April 7, 2008) — Cleveland-based WOIO-TV, CBS affiliate and Raycom’s largest market station converted its local newscasts to HD with JVC’s GY-HD250 ProHD cameras. As the first Raycom station to convert its news to HD, WOIO-TV airs eight hours of news a day utilizing JVC as the station’s primary studio news cameras for its live morning, noon, evening and nightly news programs.

WOIO-TV has the GY-HD250s set up on pedestals in a studio configuration, which are operated through Vinten Radamec broadcast robotics. The station has one operator that controls the pan, tilt, focus and zoom functions for all four cameras throughout each newscast.

We initially looked at box style cameras, but went with the GY-HD250s because they give us better control in the studio. I was sold on JVC because of the camera’s functionalities such as gamma control, return video, tally and intercom should we need it because the robotics go down,” said Bob Maupin, Chief Engineer, WOIO-TV. “In addition, we’re able to adjust the colors and skin tone detail, which is very important when we’re constantly doing close-ups of the anchors.”

In 2007, we had dozens of stations across the country adopt our affordable HD solution,” said Lawrence Librach, Vice President, Digital Video Division, JVC Professional Products Company. “And with the switch to digital TV less than a year away, JVC enables stations to transition to HD seamlessly and affordably. The days of broadcasters purchasing $35k cameras for local news are virtually over. JVC’s ProHD provides outstanding picture quality and offers a full complement of studio accessories including CCUs, Remote Operation Panels, Studio Viewfinders, Lenses and lens controls.”

Raycom’s CBS affiliate, WTVR-TV located in Richmond, Virginia has also upgraded to the JVC GY-HD250s.

WOIO-TV is one of America's most talked about CBS affiliates. 19 Action News at 11:00 is one of the only late newscasts in the country to post three consecutive years of significant audience growth. In addition, WOIO-TV has the market's only newscast at 4pm to the already established 5pm and 6pm newscasts.
This announcement follows the successful integration of the JVC GY-HD250U by many stations across the country including Scripps Television Group, Waterman Broadcasting, Weigel Broadcasting, and WLS-TV, ABC owned station in Chicago, IL and KABC-TV, ABC owned station in Los Angeles, CA.
