JVC's D-ILA Technology at Integrated Display Center (IDC)
Naval Undersea Warfare Center, Newport, Rhode Island

The Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) is the Navy's full-spectrum research, development, test and evaluation, engineering and fleet support center for submarines, autonomous underwater systems, and offensive and defensive weapons systems associated with undersea warfare.

As NUWC Division Newport's premier display and presentation facility, the Integrated Display Center is a remarkable example of facility design for multiple and diverse user applications, including presentations, meetings, training, conferences, computer simulation and wargaming. The custom desk modules are a masterful combination of form and function, providing power, connectivity to the Internet, classified network and telephone jacks for voice and data. These connections are concealed behind sliding smoked glass panels along with video input and output jacks. Three 130" (diagonal) rear projection screens driven by 4000 ANSI lumen JVC projectors provide sharp, clear images, even in full room lighting. A drop-down front projection screen, located in the soffit, accommodates wide-screen and HDTV sources, as well as VHS, DVD or satellite TV.

NUWC currently utilizes four DLA-M4000 projectors, three in the IDC, one in the John H. Chafee Auditorium, and one DLA-G20U for use in the Undersea Battlespace (USB) Laboratory. The JVC D-ILA projectors display crystal-clear, bright images in normal room lighting on the IDC's three 78" x 104" rear projection screens. Military personnel from all over the world use the IDC for anything from general meetings and training to high-level security purposes.

"JVC's D-ILA projectors were selected from a broad spectrum of manufacturers and technologies due to their superior image quality, affordability and reputation," said Steven J. Kenney, IDC Program Manager.

"For the past two years, we've had no problems with the projectors, just the relamping as required. I will always consider utilizing JVC products, not just their projectors, in future procurements," he added. "My JVC representative told me that the DLA-M4000 is, 'like a conference room projector on steroids,' and I can't agree more."

The Warfare Center seeks to provide its customers with the highest quality technologies, products, and services at the best value to ensure the Nation's continuing superiority in undersea warfare. JVC is proud to play a role in the IDC's excellent technical capabilities.
