JVC UNVEILS HDV/DV STUDIO RECORDER

Full Featured Studio HD recorder capable of recording 276 minutes of HD Programming on inexpensive media

LAS VEGAS , NV (April 19, 2004 ) –JVC PROFESSIONAL PRODUCTS COMPANY today unveiled a prototype of a professional high definition video/digital video (HD/DV) recorder and player. The new studio deck has a built-in MPEG-2 HD encoder/decoder and will play back in a variety of formats. The versatile recorder will appeal to post production houses, broadcasters and cinematographers.

The new recorder will complement JVC’s growing line-up of affordable HD products, and is an important piece in the entire HD production chain. As a stand-alone recorder with a built-in high definition MPEG2 encoder, the unit will be capable of HD recording times up to 276 minutes on a DV cassette, or up to 60 minutes on inexpensive mini-DV media.

The deck will provide IEEE-1394 digital input and output compressed high definition material, ideal for lossless dubbing and transfer to and from non-linear editing (NLE) systems. For interfacing with conventional high-end components, JVC will offer an optional HD-SDI interface card.

In addition to recording and playback in HD, the new model will be fully capable of functioning as a standard definition (SD) Professional DV recorder, thus protecting existing SD investments.

“This new recorder will shatter the myth that high definition recorders have to be expensive and hard to use,” said Tim Tokita, product marketing manager for JVC PROFESSIONAL PRODUCT COMPANY. “We’ve developed HD technology to the point where we can put everything you need into one box, and price it competitively with SD systems.”

The HD studio recorder is expected to be available in 2005. High-resolution photos are available on the Web at: http://pro.jvc.com.
