NEW ORLEANS, LA (September 15, 2003) - JVC PROFESSIONAL PRODUCTS COMPANY today announced the availability of the TK-WD310U wide dynamic range camera. JVC combines an innovative 1/3" image sensor with their original 14-bit digital signal processor (DSP) for an extremely wide dynamic range that gives the TK-WD310U the highest contrast ratio that satisfies the most stringent video surveillance security needs.

The TK-WD310U's image sensor is powered by two separate chips, which are responsible for image capture and image processing/camera interfaces. Within each pixel is an analog-to-digital signal converter that digitizes light at the point of capture, allowing each pixel to optimize the proper amount of light. The output video provides a truer, crisper picture quality regardless of the image's lighting conditions.

"The wide dynamic range on the TK-WD310U handles extreme levels of contrast like no other product on the market," explained Scott Watson, vice president Video Imaging Systems Division of JVC PROFESSIONAL PRODUCTS COMPANY. "This camera is ideal for video surveillance in locations where the lack of light or combination of natural and external lights will typically cause an image to be indistinguishable."

The TK-WD310U performs high-speed wide dynamic range correction (ExDr); with five levels of adjustable shutter speed, the camera automatically controls exposure under any lighting condition. For example, a bright portion of an image is captured with the high-speed shutter exposure, while a dark portion is captured with the normal exposure. Both of the images are synthesized to deliver a single image that includes distinguishable bright and dark portions.

The TK-WD310U camera provides 480 TV lines of horizontal resolution for high-resolution images with extremely accurate color reproduction. The JVC high-performance dual-pipeline 14-bit DSP delivers exceptional reproduction of dark areas, highlights and highlight color to ensure sharp and natural pictures. The camera offers high sensitivity, with 1.25 lux with automatic gain control (AGC) on, and Manual/Automatic White Balance to enable the capture of highly accurate high-contrast images, even in the most rugged conditions.

The TK-WD310U will be generally available in December 2003 with a suggested list price of US$715.00.
