JVC EXPANDS MII LINE WITH FIELD-PORTABLE VCR

Wayne, NJ...JVC PROFESSIONAL PRODUCTS COMPANY has introduced the KR-M460U, a portable MII VCR built for rugged field use. It uses full-sized MII videocassettes (Model # KC-MPL90) for over 90 minutes recording time with broadcast-quality video and audio performance. It works with cameras supplying either component or composite video signals. The KR-M460U weighs just over 13 pounds.

The KR-M460U also accepts 20-minute ENG cassettes (Model # KC- MPS20) without an adaptor. Through the use of Chroma Time Compressed Multiplexing (CTCM), picture quality is maintained over several generations of recording and playback, rivalling the performance of 1-inch Type C format units. By using the KR-M460U for location recording, tapes can be transferred directly to editing and broadcasting equipment without need of a format transfer.

BUILT FOR THE FIELD

The KR-M460U is designed for action in the field, with fully professional features. Standard features include:

* Sealed unit is designed to protect against dust, moisture, and outside interference.

* Battery compartments for two battery packs. Continuous operation is possible by replacing one battery pack during field operation.

* Die cast aluminum chassis that is both rugged and light (13.2 lbs).

* TBC capability to link to an external TBC, to provide the playback signal output and accuracy required for broadcast applications.

* Direct drive motors and high precision mechanisms throughout.

* Confidence heads for video and audio (channels 1 and 2) to monitor recorded signals in real time. * A built-in SMPTE Time Code Generator/Reader, with a dedicated track in the MII format for recording time code. Vertical interval time codes can also be recorded.

* 8 digit LCD display showing SMPTE time code and the charging condition of the batteries.

* Automatic backspace editing with an accuracy of 3 +/- 2 frames.

* Search function at +/-5 times normal speed in either direction.

EXTREMELY FLEXIBLE PORTABLE

For a wide range of applications, the KR-M460U's 26 pin camera connector will accept both component and composite signals, making it adaptable with yesterday's and today's video cameras. In addition to battery operation, power can be supplied from an external DC source or an optional AC adaptor. KR-M460U will not render your existing investment obsolete.

A built in RF modulator, tunable to VHF channels 3 or 4, allows direct connection to a standard TV set for monitoring. A color playback circuit with a simplified dropout compensator allows results to be checked in full color.

The KR-M460U has a video signal-to-noise ratio of better than 49 dB for luminance (Y) component signals and better than 47 dB for composite signals. Recording of the chrominance (C) signal is better than 50 dB.

In addition to its video capabilities, the KR-M460U also provides high-quality audio reproduction with Dolby C noise reduction. With longitudinal recording heads, the KR-M460U provides an audio signal-to-noise ratio of better than 55 dB at 3 percent distortion (without Dolby C). The KR-M460U also has two FM audio channels which are recorded on the chroma track.
