JVC PROFESSIONAL PRODUCTS INTRODUCES MULTI-CHANNEL DIGITAL VIDEO RECORDERS

DALLAS, TX (September 27, 2004) – JVC PROFESSIONAL PRODUCTS COMPANY today introduced the VR-616U, a 16-channel, multi-screen digital video recorder (DVR) with enhanced security features that meets the needs of today’s highly sensitive industrial and commercial surveillance systems. The Tri-plex DVR can record up to 16 video signals while letting users simultaneously record, playback and monitor live video images. The VR-616U offers high-resolution digital recording and built-in network access for complete IP integration and compatibility, making it an ideal DVR for network security operations in retail stores, factories, office buildings, medical centers, airports, banks – anywhere high-quality images are required. A 9-channel version, the VR-609U is a high-quality, enhanced security DVR option available for smaller system needs.

The latest DVRs from JVC have several sophisticated features designed for today’s increased security needs,” said Steve Martin, assistant vice president Video Imaging Systems Division of JVC PROFESSIONAL PRODUCTS. “Whether your security network requires 16-channel or 9-channel units, JVC gives its customers versatility and flexibility in their choice of high-quality digital recorders.”

Enhanced security features in the VR-616U include a built-in motion detection system to trigger an alarm and recording based on pre-set motion-related criteria. Users can also employ the unit’s email notification functionality that will automatically notify a single person or group of people whenever a particular alarm goes off. The VR-616U contains the industry-standard pre- and post-alarm recording functions that allow viewers to review the 10 to 30 seconds prior to or after an alarm event.

The JVC VR-616U uses wavelet compression, a more efficient compression protocol that also minimizes loss of video quality while requiring only ¼ of the space of JPEG. As a result, high-resolution (720x240) digital recording and playback is possible with less noticeable block noise. JVC bundles the appropriate wavelet software as well as PC viewing software with the VR-616U to enable monitoring and operation of both the cameras and the digital video recorder. Coupled with remote control capabilities for JVC pan/tilt/zoom dome cameras, such as the TK-C675BU, the VR-616U offers power and ease of use not typically found in comparable DVRs.

Security administrators can take advantage of the VR-616U’s covert-channel function for monitoring highly sensitive applications, including their own personnel. Only the system administrator is aware of and authorized to view, record or playback video from cameras on the covert channel. In addition, a spot monitor output is also provided to output surveillance images from a selected camera.

Image sequence function and multiple search modes make it convenient for users to find view by individual frame, jog or shuttle to find the video. In addition, the full-function DVR also features a 240 GB hard disk drive, digital audio recording and playback capabilities, digital zoom functionality, IEEE 1394 connection for export of images and infrared (IR) remote control.

The VR-616U and VR-609U are currently available. More information and high-resolution photos are available on JVC’s Web site at http://pro.jvc.com.
