JVC, the inventor of the S-VHS format, has seen the need for a VCR which can be used in a wide variety of medical and industrial OEM applications. The BR-S601MU answers those needs by combining the unmatched picture quality of S-VHS with a digital frame memory, and a parallel interface giving it the capability to interface with peripheral equipment.

HIGH PICTURE QUALITY

JVC's breakthrough into S-VHS technology has now made it possible to record more than 400 lines of horizontal resolution onto a 1/2" videocassette. This gives medical users the ability to record information in greater detail than ever before. Color images in the BR-S601MU are further improved by the use of separate Y (luminance) and C (chrominance) processing which virtually eliminates cross-color interference and moire.

HIGH-PERFORMANCE FRAME MEMORY

To ensure that full S-VHS picture quality is retained in still video pictures, the BR-S601MU incorporates a high-performance digital memory capable of freezing either one picture frame or one field. The digital memory uses 8-bit quantization for the Y-signal with a sampling frequency of 14.3Mhz--4 times the subcarrier frequency--and 6 bit quantization for the color signal (R-Y, B-Y) with a sampling frequency corresponding to half the subcarrier frequency.

The resulting still pictures are crisp and clear--even when printed to paper via a video printer.

NEGATIVE/POSITIVE IMAGE REVERSAL

For further analysis of a frozen picture, the BR-S601MU has the capability of converting a positive to a negative image. This permits a more detailed analysis of some images and gives a better printout, in some cases.

CONFORMS TO MEDICAL UL SAFETY STANDARDS

The BR-S601MU is fully grounded with a 3-prong power cord and has been designed to conform to UL safety standards for medical equipment. This ensures safe, trouble-free operation in medical research and diagnosis.

HI-FI STEREO SOUND

To complement the highest quality S-VHS pictures, the BR-S601MU offers superb Hi-Fi VHS stereo sound with full fidelity, very low noise, and a dynamic range of more than 85dB.

ROTARY ERASE HEAD

For clean, professional quality editing and re-recording, the BR- S601MU is equipped with a rotary (flying) erase head, which eliminates the rainbow noise and color edging, which can occur at edit points with other VCRs.

VISS index search system

The BR-S601UM has a variety of search functions including still, frame advance, and shuttle search. To facilitate finding specific locations on the recorded tape, JVC has also incorporated a "VHS INDEX SEARCH SYSTEM" (VISS) which allows the user to record up to 9 invisible cue codes onto the tape. These cue points can then be easily located at a later time using the VISS search features.

15 PIN REMOTE CONNECTOR

To facilitate interfacing the BR-S601MU to other equipment, a 15- pin connector is provided on the rear panel. This connector gives access to various tape transport functions and also provides tally confirmation of the VCR's modes. This feature will have great appeal to OEM manufacturers of equipment that interfaces to the VCR.

Additionally, a serial wired remote control is included with the BR-S401MU.
