JVC's original D-ILA imaging technology-
At the heart of the DLA-RS4810's exceptional picture quality is JVC's core technology, D-ILA. The DLA-RS4810 utilizes three D-ILA chips--one for each primary color. We design and manufacture our own chips which gives us total control over the overall picture quality.
D-ILA projectors are characterized by natural pixel-free film-like images with smooth gray scales and rich, highly accurate colors. D-ILA chips have a scatter free display surface that delivers an extremely high native contrast ratio. D-ILA chips have no spatial dithering that causes noise in the low black levels. The gray levels are smooth and continuous and replicate the signal levels accurately. Pixels are tightly spaced and liquid crystal blending gives a film-like image that no other technology can replicate.
JVC exclusive e-shift2 technology for upconverted 3840 x 2160 (4K) precision-
e-Shift is an innovative JVC technology that allows us to build a projector with 4 times the resolution using much of our existing infrastructure, keeping the projector small and affordable. For 2013, We've made significant upgrades to the original e-Shift—now called e-shift2—which include an all-new optical device, smarter Multiple Pixel Control technology, and improved enhancement and upscaling. All of this results in a picture with significantly improved contrast, and more natural color tones than on previous models. And best of all, with the DLA-RS4810, e-shift2 4K precision is now more affordable than ever.
Using e-shift, the original 1920 x 1080 signal is processed with a correlation detection algorithm to uncover detail that can be enhanced on a 4K display. With e-shift2, a much wider area is sampled—12 times as many pixels than previously—which results in improved edge transitions, zero aliasing and stair-stepping, and a significant increase in contrast in detailed areas. New sub pixels are generated based on this detection and a 3840 x 2160 frame is created and enhanced. Our new 8 band analysis filter delivers much more accurate smoothing and enhancement than the previous 2 band filter. The enhanced 4K frame is then temporally separated into subframes 1920 x 1080 pixels each and projected using a the D-ILA optical system through the e-Shift2 device. The original e-Shift device used liquid crystals to shift the subframes by 0.5 pixel both vertically and horizontally. Our new e-shift2 device shifts the image without the use of liquid crystals, and that results in an overall better resolution linearity and better ANSI contrast. The result is an image with 4 times the pixel density of the original content.
Full HD Blu-ray content looks more natural and film-like absent of any stair stepping or artifacts in diagonal lines. Upconversion to 4K is not available when viewing 3D programs.
Outstanding native contrast ratio: 50,000:1- For years, JVC has led the industry with projectors that produce the highest native contrast ratio. The DLA-RS4810 is built around a newly designed optical engine with even higher ANSI contrast than previous models. When we say "native contrast ratio" we're talking about the intrinsic ability of the projector to show the complete range of image contrast simultaneously, in every frame. There is no dynamic iris to artificially inflate contrast specifications. This is important because it allows the blackest levels of the image to be shown with the bright high lights.
The DLA-RS4810 has the capability of displaying a wider luminance range: levels from 16-255, or "Super White" signals that preserve details in bright white areas.
1/16th Pixel Convergence- Calibrators are provided with 121 alignment points enabling the projector to deliver precise convergence at all lens offsets, across the entire screen. Adjustments are made to an accuracy of 1/16th pixel.
New 230 Watt NSH Illumination System- The DLA-RS4810 utilizes a new Super High Pressure (NSH) lamp that provides a much flatter brightness curve through its rated life span. Lamp life has been increased to 4,000 hours when the projector is in the Normal mode. A 16-step lens aperture is provided to obtain the ideal brightness and contrast levels for specific viewing environments.
3D Performance Improved for 2013-
There's nothing like 3D to pull you into the scene. The DLA-RS4810 uses the frame sequential method which provides separate left-eye and right-eye images through synchronized active shutter glasses. 3D performance has been significantly improved with a new cross-talk canceler. Images are nearly 20% brighter than previous models thanks to improvements in the optical system.
The DLA-RS4810 is compatible with a wide range of 3D signals provided via Blu-ray or set-top box through its HDMI 1.4a inputs. Signals formats may include full L/R HD (frame packing) including 1080/24p and 720/60p side-by-side.The DLA-RS4810 is equipped with a parallax adjustment that allows the user to control the horizontal offset between the two channels for the most pleasing effect. 3D scaling is provided for use with anamorphic lenses.
For 2013, JVC is offering 3D glasses which use RF (radio frequency) synchronization. Using Radio Frequencies (RF) provides for a wider coverage area with no synchronization issues when turning away from the emitter. Our new glasses also have a 2D mode for audience members who would rather not view 3D. Emitter installation is much simpler with the emitter module tucked out of sight on the rear of the projector. Emitter and glasses are optional.
2D-3D Converter Built-in- The DLA-RS4810 performs real-time conversion of 2D high definition video sources into high quality, impactful 3D thanks to industry-first algorithms developed by JVC. Our 2-D/3-D technology is by far the most advanced and efficient real time conversion technology that exists. It's featured in our leading professional 3D image processor, the IF-2D3D1, used in the conversion of films and TV shows. User adjustments are provided to control depth and sub-titles.
7-axis Color Management System-
The DLA-RS4810 features a 7 axis Color Management System which interpolates R,G,B,C,M,Y, and Orange individually. It allows adjustment of color phase, chroma saturation, and brightness. By adding Orange to the Color Management System, JVC has succeeded in expanding the color range. This ensures reproduction of neutral color which is normally difficult to reproduce. It is easy to set the color for adjustment by moving color axes. Adjustment is made easier by displaying only color for adjustment. Additionally, up to three customized color settings can be stored for future use.
The DLA-RS4810 provides predefined profiles that can be used in combination with the picture mode to provide faithful image quality with a wide variety of content. Profiles were developed after analysis of film prints from major Hollywood filmmakers, as well as other content such as live concerts, animation, sports and music videos.
Film Tone Mode Function- Film Tone is JVC's high performance function which allows brightness adjustment while maintaining film quality. Previously, adjusting the brightness resulted in a floating black level. JVC has solved this issue by developing the Film Tone function. This allows brightness adjustment while automatically balancing Gamma and Contrast levels. This maintains film quality without complex adjustment. There are 32 settings for brightness that allow very precise adjustment.
Easy Gamma adjustment function : Dark / Bright Level- Dark/Bright Level allows easy gamma adjustment without complex gamma operation. It allows users to enhance black or adjust brightness, and to adjust individual Red Green & Blue levels for perfect White Balance.
Screen adjustment mode- As the quality of projected images varies depending on the type of screen and its RGB reflective characteristics, JVC D-ILA projectors have screen adjustment modes that enable users to select the optimum mode to match screen characteristics for more natural and balanced color reproduction. Users may select from 255 modes to match their specific screen characteristics. A current list of projection screens and their specific modes is be available here on JVC's website. Custom screen settings can be added to the projector via LAN connection.
