Smooth, film-like images with JVC's original D-ILA imaging technology
D-ILA, which stands for Direct Drive Image Light Amplifier, is a proprietary form of Liquid Crystal on Silicon. D-ILA projectors are characterized by natural pixel-free film-like images with smooth gray scales and rich, highly accurate colors. D-ILA reflective chips have a smooth, scatter-free display surface with an extremely high aperture ratio. D-ILA chips have no spatial dithering that causes noise in the low black levels. The gray levels are smooth and continuous and replicate the signal levels accurately. Pixels are tightly spaced and liquid crystal blending gives a film-like image that no other technology can replicate.

55,000:1 Native Contrast Ratio
JVC leads the industry with projectors that produce the highest native contrast ratio which measures the ability of the projector to show the complete range of image contrast simultaneously, in every frame. There is no dynamic iris to artificially inflate contrast specifications. The DLA-RS4800 produces brighter images with vivid colors, subtle shadows and deep, true blacks.

The DLA-RS4800 has the capability of displaying a wider luminance range: levels from 16-255, or "Super White" signals that preserve details in bright white areas.

225W short-arc UHP lamp
The DLA-RS4800 outputs 1300 ANSI lumens thanks to a 220W short-arc UHP (Ultra High Pressure) mercury lamp. Lamp life is approximately 3,000 hours when the projector is in the Normal mode. A 16-step lens aperture is provided to obtain the ideal brightness and contrast levels for specific viewing environments. The DLA-RS4800 ships with a spare lamp.

3D Enabled for the Ultimate Home Viewing Experience
The DLA-RS4800 is 3D compatible. JVC uses Frame Sequential Method that provides a full 1920 x 1080 pixels to each eye. Images are so realistic and so natural-looking that it's like being pulled into the scene. With the frame sequential method, separate left-eye and right-eye images are alternated and requires optional active shutter glasses (PKAG2P) to perceive the image correctly. An optional infrared (IR) emitter unit (PKEM1P) is also required.

3D signals are provided via Blu-ray (frame packing) or set-top box (side-by-side, top and bottom.) The DLA-RS4800U is compatible with a wide range of 3D signals provided via Blu-ray or set-top box through its HDMI 1.4a inputs. Signals formats may include full L/R HD (frame packing) including 1080/24p and 720/60p side-by-side.The DLA-RS4800 is equipped with an upgraded crosstalk canceler that analyzes the left eye and right eye video and digitally corrects dark and bright areas to reduce crosstalk. A new high speed driver increases brightness by keeping the shutters open longer on active shutter glasses. Also new is a parallax adjustment that allows the user to control the horizontal offset between the two channels for the most pleasing effect. 3D scaling is provided for use with anamorphic lenses. Additional buttons are now provided on the remote control to make 3D selection and adjustment easier.

2D-3D Converter Built-in
The DLA-RS4800 performs real-time conversion of 2D high definition video sources into high quality, impactful 3D thanks to industry-first algorithms developed by JVC. Our 2-D/3-D technology is by far the most advanced and efficient real time conversion technology that exists. It's featured in our leading professional 3D image processor, the IF-2D3D1, used in the conversion of films and TV shows. User adjustments are provided to control depth and sub-titles.

Easy Gamma adjustment function : Dark / Bright Level
Dark/Bright Level allows easy gamma adjustment without complex gamma operation. It allows users to enhance black or adjust brightness, and to adjust individual Red Green & Blue levels for perfect White Balance.

Screen adjustment mode
As the quality of projected images varies depending on the type of screen and its RGB reflective characteristics, JVC D-ILA projectors have screen adjustment modes that enable users to select the optimum mode to match screen characteristics for more natural and balanced color reproduction. Users may select from 3 modes to match their specific screen characteristics. Optimum settings are found here on JVC's website.

Clear Motion Drive
Clear Motion Drive's high-precision interpolation algorithm enhances the precision of picture-character detection to generate an accurate intermediate frame even for images with rapid movement. Whether broadcasting signal or movie content, viewers can enjoy smoother and clearer images with reduced motion blurring. JVC has upgraded this function with an improved interpolation algorithm along with black frame insertion.

Compatible HDMI v.1.4a
The DLA-RS4800 features two HDMI ver.1.4a interfaces compatible with 3D,1080/24p input and Deep Color. It is compatible with the mandatory 3D formats contained within the HDMI 1.4a specification:

  • 1080p @ 23.98/24Hz - Frame Packing (Blu-ray movies)
  • 720p @ 50 or 59.94/60Hz - Frame Packing (gaming)
  • 1080i@ 50 or 59.94/60Hz - Side-by-Side
  • 720p @ 50 or 59.94/60Hz - Top-Bottom or Side-by-Side
  • 1080p @ 23.97/24Hz - Top-Bottom

In addition, both interfaces are CEC (consumer electronic control) compatible which allows communication with external devices to enable the control of One-Touch Play, System Standby, etc. Wide HDMI cables can be also inserted simultaneously side by side, and are compatible with HDMI cables equipped with screws for a stable, fixed connection.

HDMI Input Level function
HDMI Input Level allows the user to check input HDMI level by displaying four different samples: Standard(16-235), Enhanced (0-255), Super white(16-255), 0 level on screen. It enable users to check easily when the signal is incorrectly detected.

Remote Terminals
The DLA-RS4800 is supplied with terminals for HDMI, Trigger, Remote Control and LAN. A built-in web server provides remote control functions via any personal computer (or hand held device) on the local area network. RS-232C allows for control by leading commercial external controllers. A trigger terminal is provided that signals an optional anamorphic Lens to stretch the screen to a 2.35:1 aspect ratio.

Motorized Lens Offsets for Easy Set-up
The motorized ±80% vertical and ±34% horizontal lens shift function enables far more flexibility in setting up the projector as it allows the projected picture to be easily moved horizontally or vertically. In addition, the 2x motorized zoom & focus lens — with throw distances of 3.0 meters to 6.1 meters for the 100-inch display — simplifies tedious zoom and/or focus adjustment.

Lens Memory Function
The DLA-RS4800 has 3 memories for lens offset, focus and zoom. This allows you to set a constant height and use the same projection screen for 1.78, 1.85 and 2.35 aspect ratios without an anamorphic lens. Your pre-assigned aspect settings are called up by pressing the "lens memory" button on the remote control. For example, assuming that you have a 2.35 screen and want to watch a 16:9 movie, you can resize it with the push of a button. If your movie is a 2.35 film, you can take full advantage of your Cinemascope screen. [More about lens memory]

Inverse telecine (reverse 2-3 pulldown)
To display TV broadcasts or commercially available DVDs created using the 2-3 pulldown process, the inverse telecine function re-converts the video source back to a 24fps signal and displays it at double speed or 48 fps, ensuring cinema-like viewing faithful to the original source.

ISF certification

ISF (Imaging Science Foundation)

The DLA-RS4800 has been licensed with the ISF C 3 (Certified Calibration Controls) mode, enabling trained dealers to professionally calibrate it to specific screen surfaces, lighting environments, and video sources. These precise settings are then stored into the projector to ensure reproduction of film or video content accurate to the source and excellent picture quality in all viewing situations.
