JVC INTRODUCES HIGH-RESOLUTION COLOR CAMERA

has introduced the KY-15CI, a high-resolution, three-CCD color 
camera for image capture in computer-graphics applications. The KY-
15CI is designed for direct connection to TARGA, VISTA, and Raster 
Ops image capture boards through a 9-pin connector supplied with 
the camera. 

The KY-15CI has resolution of 668 X 485 pixels and uses a one-line 
scanning technique that produces a significant increase in vertical 
resolution. An optical prism is used to separate the red, green, 
and blue primary colors, assuring natural color reproduction. The 
camera's electronic shutter stops action down to 1/500 second per 
field. 

The KY-15CI is an easy camera to use. The operator simply turns it 
on and focuses, and the image is sent to the graphics board in the 
personal computer. One button is used to set up the camera, and 
set-up status is displayed on the computer screen, eliminating the 
need for an electronic viewfinder. 

The KY-15CI is equipped with the HZ-410U 10:1 zoom-macro lens that 
has variable focal length from 7 to 70 mm. The iris and zoom 
functions are motorized, but can also be operated manually. The 
macro function allows focusing to 1.38 in., making the camera 
excellent for use on a copy stand. 

A negative/positive reversal switch makes it possible to convert 
color negatives into positive images. Selectable optical filters 
allow operation with 3200 K and 5600 K light sources, and the 
automatic white balance circuit has two memory positions. 

The KY-15CI outputs RGB, component, and composite signals, and 
transmits the video information to the graphics board through a 9-
pin subminiature D connector. It weighs 8.16 lb. and measures 4.5 X 
9 X 15.25 in. including the lens. An AC adapter is included. 

The KY-15CI is available immediately, and has a suggested list 
price of $6,395.
