JVC PROFESSIONAL PRODUCTS LAUNCHES
MPEG4 SURVEILLANCE CAMERA

VN-C10U provides real-time monitoring with minimal equipment

WAYNE, NJ (February 5, 2003) - JVC PROFESSIONAL PRODUCTS COMPANY today announced the introduction of the VN-C10U, a video camera that works in a network environment and delivers still or motion JPEG or MPEG 4 format video streams with superior video quality, for smooth delivery over a LAN, WAN, or the Internet.

A compact, all-in-one design, the VN-C10U includes built in Web and FTP servers for direct connections to a network. The camera provides MPEG 4 video in two resolutions, 160 x 120 or 320 x 240 pixels, and motion JPEG video in three resolutions, from 160 x 120 to 640 x 480 pixels, enabling you to view the video, in full size, from anywhere in the world.

With internal memory, pre-and post alarm recording is possible. The VN-C10U pre-alarm recording function allows you to view events leading up to an alarm, ideal for viewing those missed events. Motion detection functionality, with user settable detection area and threshold, makes the VN-C10U an excellent solution for your security needs

Making the Most of Broadband Technology
The VN-10U allows you to use your LAN or the Internet to handle a variety of remote monitoring tasks where audio is not a necessity, making it a terrific solution for applications such as remote security and manufacturing situations in addition to Webcasting. The built in Web server allows cross-platform (Windows, Mac, Linux, etc.) multicasting that delivers the same high quality images to any and all computers on your network via a Web browser. With three-level passwords for protection, the Web server also allows users to change settings from anywhere in the world.

Coupled with the 8 Mb or internal RAM, the built-in FTP server functions allow users to upload custom designed Web pages, including JAVA Applet Controller. VN-C10U FTP client functions allow uploading JPEG still images to an external FTP server at regular intervals.

To prevent obsolescence, the FTP client allows uploading of firmware to the VN-C10U without the need to send it back to the factory…you don’t even need to take the camera off the wall!

Included PC software provides viewing and control functionality for access to multiple V.Networks cameras with a single connection.  The VN-C10U’s NAT/IP Masquerade function allows connection of multiple private V.Networks cameras with a single global IP address.

MPEG-4 Technology a Cost-Effective Delivery Method
By using industry-standard compression formats, the VN-C10U offers users the ability to monitor locations remotely in real-time using a standard Web browser.  With the included software users can even monitor and control multiple V.Networks cameras over one global IP network. This feature makes the camera the ideal solution for companies seeking a security or remote-viewing solution without having to use a cumbersome monitor system.

With bit rates from 64 kbps to 2 Mbps, MPEG-4 delivers the best possible video at any bit rate when compared to its alternatives. With low delay and scalable bit rate, the VN-C10U with MPEG-4 can be used in any application where real-time remote viewing is required.

"The VN-C10U is a solution for companies seeking to provide remote viewing capabilities for many users that do not require an audio feed," states Juan Martinez, product manager for JVC PROFESSIONAL PRODUCTS COMPANY.  “The possible applications are limitless.  Consider a scenario where the VN-C10U is located in a daycare center.  Parents could check in on their children throughout the day, right from their desktop PCs at work.  Talk about peace of mind!”  Other applications include manufacturing environments where all facilities can be monitored from a single location, or security applications, where one or more cameras can be monitored from many locations simultaneously.
