KY-320B: THREE-TUBE COLOR VIDEO CAMERA
The JVC KY-320 color video camera, using newly-developed S-M (electrostatic focusing/electromagnetic deflection) Plumbicon* tubes, has very wide applications, especially amongst production houses, CATV stations and freelance camera operators because of its high cost-efficiency. Following the upgrading of JVC's top model, the KY-950, the KY-320B, developed on the basis of the KY-320 with improved circuitry, basic performance and functions, will be released in September 1986. With its comprehensive lineup of peripherals, the new KY320B is ideal for a wide of applications. *Registered trademark of N.V> PHILIPS
FEATURES
1. High resolution, higher S/N
The newly-developed S-M Plumbicon* tubes, together with the new, separate R/G/B preamp circuits and f/1.4 prism optical system, make possible the high resolution of 650 lines and an S/N of 57 dB (NTSC). The corner resolution is also improved by using a dynamic focus circuit.
2. New registration circuit
Separate horizontal/vertical pin and trapezoidal distortion correction circuitry, an improved linearity circuit, an additional electrical rotation circuit, etc. have improved the registration accuracy to 0/1% for Zone I, 0.2% for Zone II and 0.3% for Zone III. A new prism temperature compensation circuit is provided to reduce V-SHIFT variation when there are changes in temperature.
3. Rugged body design
The aluminum diecast body is compact and lightweight, and gives the camera a user-friendly design with its oblique VTR cable connector, etc. The controls used most often in operation, such as the gain switch, preset white balance switch and color bar switch, are provided on the front of the camera for operator convenience.
Improved reliability is assured by the extensive use of chip components on the circuit boards which include plug-in PCBs that are inserted vertically.
4. East maintenance
in order to allow routine adjustments without using an estension board, the adjustment points are all provided on the edges of the PCB's.
5. Automated functions
The auto-shift registration, auto-white balance and auto-black balance circuits use 8-bit digital circuits, the set-ups of which are stored in battery backed up memory. The auto-white balance circuitry incorporates two backed-up adjustment memories as well as the preset balance (3200 K) memory, and the auto-black balance circuitry uses an auto-black setting circuit for improved stability of black when the gain is switched between 0 dB, 9 dB and 18 dB. These automated functions can be used by the one-push operation of switches.
6. 2H vertical contour correction circuit
Reasons why the picture is sharp and has a high S/N include the 2H vertical contour correction circuit with a comb filter, level dependent circuit and noise slice circuit.
7. New color matrix masking circuit
Color reproduction is further improved by the new color matrix circuit.
8. Pick-up tube protection circuitry
When the power is switched off, when the color bar switch is turned on, during auto-black balance adjustment or when beam current is not flowing, the iris is automatically closed to protect the sensitive tubes from burnout. The pick-up tubes are also protected from damage in case of a malfunction by a heater protection circuit.
9. Wide dynamic range
The upper-section weighting circuit and NAM-type auto-iris circuit, together with the wide dynamic range processor circuit (more than 300%), result in sharp pictures with clear details, even when shooting high-contrast scenes.
10. New viewfinder
The picture in the newly-designed VF-P915U 1.5" viewfinder is easier to see thanks to the large eyepiece with flip-up mechanism and the luminance signal input. The eyepiece can be moved horizontally, vertically or backwards and forwards for easier operation. The cableless, hot-shoe type connection makes the viewfinder sufficiently sturdy for EFP and ENG applications.
11. System versatility
Using the RS-500U multi-core type remote control unit, RS-T900 triaxial adaptor unit, KA-3U component adaptor, etc., systems based on the KY-320BU camera can be used for EFP/ENG, OB van and studio applications.
12. Other facilities
