JVC INTRODUCES THE WORLD'S FIRST FULL-SIZE S-VHS
3-CHIP INTEGRATED CAMCORDER
RTNDA, MIAMI, September 93 -- JVC PROFESSIONAL PRODUCTS COMPANY
showcased the GY-X2U (X-2), the world's first full-size S-VHS 3-
chip integrated camcorder. This full-size camcorder combines all
the benefits of S-VHS recording and the latest 3-chip camera
technology into a single unit that weighs less than 15.5 pounds
including lens, battery, and cassette.
Despite its compact size and lightweight design, the X-2
offers a wide array of features. One of the most unique features of
the X-2 is JVC's exclusive LoLux technology that allows the camera
to produce quality pictures in light as low as 3 lux. By combining
an extremely quiet 24 dB gain with an unusual pixel read-out system
and signal processing, JVC has achieved an effective gain of 30 dB
without the noise usually associated with this much amplification.
Three 1/2" CCDs, each with 330,000 pixels, deliver 650 lines of
horizontal resolution with a quiet 60 dB signal-to-noise ratio.
The X-2 is designed with a full-size head drum and can record
up to two hours with ST-120 cassette. A Quick Start mechanism
provides the user with immediate operation in 0.5 seconds.
Pictures are recorded at better than 400 lines of resolution with 4
audio channels (2 Hi-Fi, 2 linear). XLR connectors will
accommodate 2 external microphones.
A plug-in time code option will enable the user to record
Vertical Interval Time Code (VITC) or Longitudinal Time Code (LTC)
on the tape. This option offers SMPTE standard identification code
for every frame of recorded video, which is often required for
precise editing or off-line logging.
Other features of the X-2 include: an industry standard
bayonet 1/2" lens mount with 12-pin connector; an advanced auto
white balance with 2 digital memories; and an Automatic Light
Control (ALC) with an Extended Electronic Iris to maintain a
constant video level in varying lighting conditions, without
switching gain or inserting an ND filter. Also, an automatic lens
iris circuit uses a multizone detection area to produce the most
natural pictures.
"By combining an exceptional low-light professional camera
with a compact two-hour S-VHS recorder, JVC has achieved the
ultimate camcorder that offers lightweight maneuverability with the
quality and convenience of S-VHS," said David Walton, JVC marketing
manager.
JVC PROFESSIONAL PRODUCTS COMPANY distributes a complete line
