JVC INTRODUCES DIGITAL VIDEO RECORDER
FOR SURVEILLANCE SYSTEM USE

WAYNE, NJ -- (October 1, 2001) -- JVC PROFESSIONAL PRODUCTS COMPANY has introduced its versatile and easy-to-use digital video recorder, the VR-510U, engineered for surveillance systems to replace time lapsed VCR systems. The VR-510U is able to record high quality MPEG-2 images in a variety of modes, and is the only MPEG-2 recording system that allows direct VCR replacement as a stand-alone turnkey product.

The MPEG-2 compression allows recording of high quality 720 x 480 pixel images. For more flexibility and extended recording, a user can also select 360 x 240 pixel image recording. A wide range of recording qualities and speeds are also available. The VR-510U has a built in 80-gigabyte hard drive that allows recording of one frame per second for 1,700 hours.

Businesses, law enforcement, government agencies and civic organizations will be interested in the VR-510U's pre/post sensor recording, in which material can be checked in real time both before and after an alarm sensor is triggered. This type of monitoring is not possible with tape-based recorders. Pre-sensor recording duration can be selected from 30 and 60 seconds. Additional features of interest include: simultaneous recording and playback, alarm recording search function, quick/random access and convenient jog/shuttle control which give the user more flexibility than is possible with a conventional time lapsed recorder.

The versatility of the VR-510U allows simultaneous recording and playback function to review image sequences without interrupting recording. Unlike a VCR, the VR-510U has no heads to clean, and no tapes to degrade, insuring optimum quality image recording at all times. The VR-510U can be connected to a multiplexer allowing for easy integration into an existing surveillance system. A PC can be connected to the recorder via the RS-232C interface for PC controlled operation.

As a stand-alone unit, JVC's VR-510U can be plugged in as a replacement without additional training, installation or purchasing of equipment.

The VR-510U will be available from authorized JVC PROFESSIONAL PRODUCT COMPANY dealers in December 2001.
