KY-15 THREE-CCD COLOR VIDEO CAMERA

In response to the demand for higher-quality visual images, JVC announced the development of the S-VHS format and has strived to introduce products of this format to the market. In doing so, the release of cameras which would perfectly match S-VHS recorders has been awaited.

Meanwhile, in the professional ENG camera market, cameras using solid-state pickup elements are becoming the mainstream, replacing those with tubes, because of their advantages in operability, size and weight. Also, cameras that can be used in the camcorder configuration are increasingly appreciated as they provide more mobility in newsgathering and field production.

The KY-15U series cameras, using 1/2" CCDs with 360,000 pixels, have been developed to meet with these market requirements. They can not only be used as a self-contained camera, but as a camcorder as well when combined with the already released S-VHS portable VCR, the BR-S410U. No adapter is required in this camcorder configuration.

HIGH PICTURE QUALITY WITH THREE 1/2" CCDS

Following our success with 1/2" pickup technology as demonstrated in the BY-11O three-tube color video cameras, the KY-15 is a three- CCD camera using 1/2" CCDs with 330,000 effective pixels (360,000 gross) combined with an F/l.4 prism optical system specially developed for use with 1/2" CCD solid-state image pickup elements. The resulting picture quality can be seen from its signal-to-noise ratio of 58 dB and resolution of 500 lines in each of the R, G, B and Y channels.

MULTI-FORMAT OUTPUT SIGNALS

The video output is available in any of a number of formats: MII (Y, R-Y and B-Y component signals), S-VHS (separated E/C signals) , composite video and RGB.

DESIGNED FOR CAMCORDER INTEGRATION WITH S-VHS OR MII RECORDERS

Housed in a rugged diecast aluminum body, the KY-15 is designed to be combined into a camcorder with a professional-spec S-VHS portable. For easy operation, most controls are concentrated on the front. With an optional adapter, an MII portable can also be used with the KY-15 in the camcorder configuration, making it suitable for field production.

CONFORMING TO THE BROADCAST STANDARD RS-170A

The built-in sync signal generator conforms to the RS-170A standard. And, using the wide-band color difference signal system, the encoder is designed to be compatible with the component video recorders used by broadcasters.

HIGH-SPEED ELECTRONIC SHUTTER

Three high-speed shutter modes - 1/250, 1/500 and 1/1000 -are provided by an electronic shutter. Used appropriately, these facilitate the analysis of movement.

SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM WITH CHARACTER DISPLAY

The built-in character generator displays status, mode and warning indications on the viewfinder screen.

STEREO AUDIO CIRCUIT

A stereo audio circuit is built in for use with an optional stereo microphone (MV-P6O2). The circuit can be switched to monaural for use with a super-directional monaural microphone (M-K50).

SYSTEMS FLEXIBILITY

A variety of system units are available: the RM-P200 Remote Control Unit which allows remote control from up to 100 m (335 ft), the VF- P400 4" Viewfinder for Studio use, the AA-P200 AC Power Adapter which can be mounted on the camera head, the AA-P250 AC Power adapter which doubles as a battery charger and a full range of interchangeable lenses. These extend the range of applications of the KY-15, making it ideal for use in the field or studio, for surveillance, or as the input device in an image processing or medical research system.
